I am going to introduce you a funny and touching Korean comedy in my second entry. It is called the Scandal Makers. This movie is about a not so popular 36 year old Korean DJ who is having high listenership due to an anonymous young single mother calling in. One day, the DJ ‘s doorbell rang and this 22 year old single mum with a 6 year old boy claim to be his daughter and grandson at his doorstep. This resulted in a twist in his bachelor life and the single mum’s life, whereby this selfish man and this immature girl changed into caring and responsible individuals.

The DJ took in the mother and child under situational rules that govern the situation he is in. The mother threatens to reveal their identity and because he is a celebrity and exposing this scandal will spoil his good image, changing people’s perception of him as a caring person and cause listenership to fall. It’s a good example to show how organisation can be influenced by structural elements that shape our overall approach to the perceptual tasks.

In this movie, you can also see how physical personal constructs is used to predict the future and how it governs people’s personal action or response. The girl was dressed like a village girl at first and when she participate the singing competition her biological father, the DJ, had the thinking that she will not sing well until she sung. They were all shocked that the girl could sing so well. When the girl took a makeover, she rose to popularity in a short time. Similarly, the grandson was dressed shabbily and the kids in the childcare refused to play with him. Things start to change for the better until his dad bought him nice outfits and when they realized that he could play the piano very well.

Figure (the focus of our attention) and ground (setting or context surrounding the context) also plays a part in this movie. The first day in the childcare, the little boy saw a very cute little girl (figure) and he totally had all his eyes on her and even when his grandfather (ground), the DJ, called out to him he is not paying attention. His grandfather also focuses on the gorgeous female teacher when he saw her and forgets the surrounding.

We also tend to form closure which is tendency to fill in the missing piece of a puzzle by mentally completing it so as to make sense of a particular set of stimuli. In one of the scene, the ex-boyfriend of the single mother saw her going up the same house with the DJ, and he starts to suspect that she is having an affair with the DJ. Also, when he saw the little boy at the police station he thought that the DJ is the father of the boy. Through vision, he made up his perception without knowing the full picture.

Lastly, this is a comedy worth watching as it have a good storyline and a cute boy as the character which will make you laugh. Mostly importantly, it is a touching movie about kinship and family ties.

woah…seems like a nice movie…sure i will go and watch when i got the time. Anyway,I also think that the appearance of a person is quite important, because many a times, people judge you by your appearance, just like what you mention about in the movie. However, to me, i would still feel that a person character is actually the most important factor of a person. So, i think that not just kids, even adults should learn to accept people who does not dress as good as you.

Yes I also think that apperance is important but it is only important to people who do not understand you. People who know you well enough would definitely not judge you based on your looks. For me, first impression is very important but even if you have the looks of an angel but a rotten heart, you will still be ugly to me. However, in this real world inner beauty is often not appreciated as much as appearance, this is the reason why plastic surgery is so ommon in korea and most develop countries.

that show! omg. The trailer plus the promotions on radio made me really want to watch it but just couldn’t find the time.
I do agree that physical constructs govern people’s actions or response. It has always been a majority perception that, when you are well-dressed, you are clever and so on.
The part which you described about figure and ground in the movie is funny! HAHA! yea it’s true too!

    comment on my blog yea!

I heard about it on radio lots of times too thats why i went to watch in the end.
Yes the figure and ground part is very funny and this is even funnier if you watch the movie as there is contrasting sound effects.

seems like a pretty interesting movie! (:

it’s only human nature to form prejudices against people who seem to be of a different social standing as yourself. as cheesy as this gets, what matters most is your interior beauty and not what we can see externally.

i guess categorizing is one negative human nature that’s pretty hard to get rid of (:

Sounds interesting! You are tempting me to watch the movie. I agree with you that how you dress or carry yourself can shape people’s opinion of you. When you are well dressed or carrying branded stuff people tend to have better impression about you as a person. However, it is still the best to be yourself and not blindly follow people’s path. People should all be true to themselves and the people around you and you will find in time that people will start to accept you as a person.

I saw this trailer and all the advertising of this movie in television and radios. I watched this movie as it sounds really interesting and truely its really very funny and the ending was very touching. I really recommend this movie to those who have not watch it.
Who would have thought that the little boy could play the piano so well when he is so young. This really change my perception of small children and never underestimate what they could do.
Thanks for sharing this with me although i have watched it.

    Hi shuanghui.
This movie seems to be very funny. This is a bit incredible as such a young man is actually a grandfather in his early 30. This man’s child actually went to his doorstep to find him
I go with you regarding the point that we tend to form closure whereby we rush to conclusion when we only see part of the pictues and this often resulted in people having misunderstandings about things and people.
I will try to watch this movie if i have the time to do so.

    • huanyin123

Yes try to watch it when you are free, I highly recommend you to do so. This movie is very clever in the sense that nobody would have thought that a man can actually be a grandfather at such a young age and this will attract people to watch it.

yeap. somehow, most people like to complete part(s) of something automatically and sometimes, unwittingly, upon seeing only one side of it. though i don’t like to be classified, i, for one, does it most of the time.

thanks. your post got me reflecting. :D D

Welcome. This is a bad habit though its common among human. Misunderstanding are easily created this way. It is better to know the full picture first if not there will be many regrets in life. That is just one of my personal experience. :)

I think most of the people have the tendency to judge a person just by the appearance without really understanding the person. Just like what you posted where the father initially thought the girl is not able to sing well just because she is dressed like a village girl when in actual fact she can sing really well. Im just wondering if the girl would still become popular if she did not have the makeover…

    • huanyin123

However, I think that looks only have its greatest impact at the beginning. But it diminishes during the course of interaction. I believe she would still be famous because there are many real cases of celebrities that are famous due to their talents instead of appearance. Jodi Sparks does not have a great figure but she is a great singer, and Jacky Wu a great comedian although he is short and normal looking. It common for people to judge based on appearance but they should keep in mind that inner beauty is long lasting unlike physical ones.

I have heard recommendations from others about this show. seems like a good show to catch.
Some stuff that you said sounds familiar like what I have learnt during psychology lessons too. ahaha.

    • huanyin123

Actually, I think sociology, psychology and communication have certain concepts that are in common, it is not suprise that you think it sounds familiar to what you have learnt in psychology. Yes it is a good show. Hope you will enjoy it.
